Africa Fashion Week London 2012

Wow what a week its been! I have been rushing about town like a madwoman trying to get my business correct so the blog has been somewhat neglected, my apologies. To get your regular fix of amu.dat banter, follow me on twitter where I have been posting updates on all my adventures!
My first foray into excitement was on Friday when I attended Africa Fashion Week London which took over one half of Spitalfields Market. Quite frankly I have never seen so many African shoppurtunities in one place!  There were stalls by upcoming clothing, jewellery and accessories designers as well as catwalk shows showcasing ones to watch. Online store Sapelle hosted a stall where I picked up a very cute ankara print skirt by Tina Lobondi and I got some hooped fabric earrings from J.M. Prempeh, which I'll be reviewing in a future post. I was also very impressed by the Eldimaa Fashion stall whose new season stock was a fusion of jersey and ankara to create form fitting dresses and pencil skirts. Perfect for any city girl!

Two designers off the catwalk that really made an impression were House of Marie and Mademoiselle Aglaia. House of Marie brought a festival of orange, tie dye and cut out detail pieces to proceedings. Ladylike fitted dresses, peplum tops and high waisted skirts where the stars of the show, a big nod to the Mad Men trend that's still reigning supreme. There were also touches of fun with a fetching star print high waisted trouser and a flouncy 50s style dress with a mesh back in the same print.
Mademoiselle Aglaia took things in an altogether younger direction with knicker shorts, lashings of leather and barely there mesh dresses. Black sequin embroidery was also used to great effect across evening wear pieces.
