Another huge trend looking to dominate this SS13 is our new found love affair with all things far Eastern. Prada led the pack with their modern interpretation of the Geisha look. Layering and oversized sleeves which echoed the traditional kimono, opulent fabrics and a stark flower motif ruled the catwalk. Pucci on the other hand gave us flavours of Indochina with silken pieces heavily embroidered with traditional motifs and beautifully printed quilted mini kimonos.
I am loving the return of the kimono. It's comfy, perfect for layering, fashion forward...I could go on and on. Nailing this trend while still shopping African may seem a near impossibility but it's actually jaw-droppingly easy. The key is finding pieces with a wrap-round finish which you can fashion into a modern day kimono. Look out for beautiful embroidery, micro prints and large sleeves. I've managed to pull together some of my favourite pieces which would sit comfortably within this trend but with a cheeky African twist. Click image to enlarge.
