Happenings: Afro Hair And Beauty Live!

Yesterday armed with an afro full of questions and an extensive product wish list, I made my way to the Business Design Centre in Islington for the Afro Hair and Beauty Live show. First impression? WOW! I was completely overwhelmed by the sheer volume of people and stands dedicated to the pursuit of great hair. I pulled myself together and dove straight in to the mix with fellow blogger Aicl3a.
Aicl3a and her incredibly cool mohawk
I rocked a super defined twist out
We are both team natural so we headed straight for the natural hair care stands at the show. We watched demonstrations with the Aunt Jackie's products, sampled Taliah Waajid hair moisturisers and I was completely enamored with the wizardry of CurlFormers. There was also a fantastic stand selling natural oils, soaps and pure shea butter. These stands proved to be some of the most popular at the event, which was such a pleasant surprise. It was great to see so many fellow naturals out in force. Although it did mean throwing elbows to get my hands on the last of Aunt Jackie's Curls & Coils Defining Curl Custard.
Loved her style and big love for that top bun
Really chic cornrowed updo
The gorgeous ladies of AA Naturals
For those who are fans of relaxers and weaves, there was loads on offer with an ORS (formerly Organic Root Stimulator) stand offering scalp analysis, PAKS selling goody bags filled with Mazuri products including an at home relaxer kit and Sleek Hair showcased their finest weaves on the runway. Check out a snippet of the show below. Mary Kay were also on hand for those looking for a beauty fix. There was also a section dedicated to clothing and accessories where the wonderful Sapelle and Eldimaa had stands.
She was working the event and that cute lil 'fro!
These two had such strong looks and I love the dip dye effect

I came away with some much needed products and loads of samples from different brands that I can't wait to try. All will be documented here! The event all in all was a success and I will definitely be in attendance next year. However with more ladies making the choice to go natural, I would have loved more natural hair care stands, interactive tutorials and perhaps a runway show highlighting the glamour of an afro. I was also really surprised at the lack of hair accessories; a stand selling hair brushes and combs would have been ideal.

Did you attend the event? I would love to hear your thoughts. Please share your experience with me via Twitter or through the Facebook page.
