Kiss The Boys...

Valentine's Day means a lot of smooching so you want to get those lips ready. The key to a perfect pout isn't just about that pop of colour. A little lip maintenance can go a long way.  Follow the steps below for kissable soft lips.

Prep

Before you reach for your favourite lippy, you need to create a soft and smooth base for it to sit on. This is where your lip scrub comes in. I'm a big fan of the Lush Lip Scrub in Bubblegum. It smells (and tastes) so good and gently removes any dry skin. You can also go down the DIY route and make your own. Check out this quick and easy recipe from Youtube blogger HayleyRedBeauty

Moisturise

This is everything. Kissable soft lips cannot be achieved without moisture. I currently use a smidge of coconut oil after my scrub but I'm also a big fan of Carmex Cherry Lip balm. It smells delicious, keeps chapped lips at bay and contains SPF 15. At under £3 a tube, it just makes sense.

Colour

Clearly this is the really fun bit. I don't subscribe to any of that nonsense about what shade 'suits' what skin tone. Wear what you feel good in!  I love a good red lip but I've been known to dabble in rosy pinks and I'm really feeling orange this season. When I'm looking to experiment, I tend to opt for Barry M Lip Stains. They always have fun colours and are quite moisturising. Plus they are affordable at £5 - £7 each.

Gloss

This bit is entirely optional or can be used instead of colour. For days when I want my lips to pop (not literally), I like to dab on a little gloss. My favourite has to be the Soap & Glory Super-Colour Sexy Mother Pucker. It's a little pricey at £10 each but it actually does what it says on the label. After a brief period of tingling after application, your lips will feel plumper. It's high shine so a little goes a long way.

There you have it, all the trappings of a perfect pout. Now get kissing!
