When it comes to my glorious mane, I'm always on the lookout for products that can have it looking and feeling it's best. As such, I was really excited when British brand Curly by Nature gifted me some samples to try. Founded by Klerissa Mcdonald, this all natural brand is designed for kinks, coils and curls. With ingredients that would make any natural girl swoon, I couldn't wait to get stuck in.
Ingredients: Sugar, Coconut, Honey Extract, D-Pathenol, A Blend of Protein, Fruit Extract, Ylang Ylang Essential Oil
The Technical Stuff: I used this shampoo in exactly the same way I use my regular one. I poured out a generous amount, worked it into a foam and then massaged it into my scalp before working it through my hair. Although the directions promise a 'rich lather', I was unable to get one going. I've come to not expect a ton of suds when working with sulphate free shampoos so this wasn't a real issue for me. The shampoo has a pleasant smell but it is quite strong. If you aren't a fan of perfumed products, you may find it a little irritating.
Results: If you have thirsty strands like mine then you are going to love this shampoo. It does a good job cleansing but the best bit is how hydrating it is. After the first wash, my curls were bouncy and full of life like they'd already been conditioned. It also had a shine to it that I only usually get after an ACV rinse.
Ingredients: Avocado Oil, Grapeseed Oil, Pumpkin Seed Oil, Shea Butter, Phytokeratin, Provitamin B5
The Technical Stuff: There are a couple of ways to use this product and it all depends on what your hair needs. I used it as a deep conditioner and a rinse out. It's got a really smooth texture which makes it a dream to apply. It's so rich that you don't need to apply a lot. I went overboard the first time I used it as a DC and I ended up over-conditioning my hair (yeah that is a thing!).
Results: WOOOOOW! This mask is amazing! I used it as a DC when my hair was truly parched and it made my hair incredibly soft. My hair looks smoother and is more manageable when it comes to styling. As a rinse out on week old hair, I had similar results. My curls have more definition all round and tons of shine.
Ingredients: Avocado Oil, Jojoba Wax, Rose Hip Oil, Pumpkin Oil, Carrot Oil, Chickweed Oil, Meadowform Oil, Castor oil, Coconut oil, Passionflower Oil, Baobab Oil , Vitamin E, Olive Oil, Chamomile CO2 Extract, Sea Buckthorn CO2 Extract, Rosemary Antioxidant
The Technical Stuff: This balm is definitely a styling product and not a replacement for a leave-in. The texture of the balm is a little unusual, I was expecting a gel but it felt more like a sorbet. It can be used on the scalp as well as on your hair. It smells much like the rest of the range but as you only need a little, it's less heady.
Results: I like to think of this balm as the icing on the cake. It's a great finishing product that got my frizz under control and added shine. The pics above were all taken after a long days work - note the lack of a frizz halo. I was also able to wear my stretched hair out without it shrinking into a tangled mess. I was hoping the balm would have stronger hold so I could use it for my wash 'n' go but it was firm enough to set a braid out.
I am really impressed with the Curly By Nature range. I'm all about moisture when it comes to haircare and this line delivers it by the bucket load. My hair feels really soft and has never looked so shiny. While I got on with all the products, the star product for me has to be the Intensive Conditioning Mask. It really delivers and works just as well as more expensive alternatives. Once I get through my sample I'll definitely be restocking.
