Finally the time is here! I have tried and tested all the gorgeous products that I received from CurlClinic. Aside from Qhemet Biologics, the other brands were completely new to me. It was great to discover new products to fall in love with and try things I wouldn't normally consider. I used the majority of the products in tandem with interesting results.
Qhemet Biologics Travel Pack - Burdock Root Butter Cream, Amla & Olive Heavy Cream, Moringa Tree Conditioning Ghee and Cocoa Tree Detangling Ghee
I loved this little pack of butters and creams. The travel size is handbag friendly plus it's a great way to try the line without committing to the full size product. The stand out product for me in the set was the Amla & Olive Heavy Cream. I've been using this consistently on wash day with great results. The cream is so rich, it locks in hydration and keeps my hair moisturised for days. I also love how it makes my curls hang, making for some of the best wash 'n' go's I have had in a while.
The whole collection benefits from really great high performance ingredients which means a little goes a long way. All the range delivered as conditioners and detanglers and worked well layered on top of one another. To refresh my curls midweek, I would steam my hair in the shower and then layer on the Burdock Root Butter Cream followed by the Moringa Tree Conditioning Ghee. My curls loved these products so much, I was able to rock a wash and go for 7 days!
The Cocoa Tree Detangling Ghee was the least exciting in the range. While it did help with detangling, I've gotten similar results from using plain old Avocado oil and a little patience. The only major benefit of the product is that it absorbs quickly and doesn't leave a mess. I was able to use it as a pre-poo treatment, pack my hair into a bun and not worry about a pool of oil forming at the base of my neck (coconut oil lovers know what I'm talking about).
All in all, this little pack gets an A- from me. I think it's a great intro to Qhemet Biologics and is a great gift idea for natural ladies.
Joico Smooth Cure Sulfate Free Shampoo & Smooth Cure Sulfate Free Conditioner
I'm going to be honest, I approached this product with A LOT of scepticism. I'm not a fan of products that claim to 'tame' curls or refer to my natural awesomeness as 'coarse' and 'erratic'. My curls are not erratic and they are definitely not here to be tamed. With this already on my mind, I went in ready to put this product on blast. However I was pleasantly surprised.
While I'm not down with the marketing language (seriously Joico - get a new copywriter) the products did a good job. I shampooed and conditioned my hair as normal and I noticed straight away without adding any products how defined and smooth my curls appeared. After applying my leave-ins and giving my hair a quickie blow dry, I was impressed with the final look. My curls looked smooth and shiny and I had barely any frizz. It was about 3 days before my trusty frizz halo returned.
I would have liked to try the products again and attempt a straight blow dry to see what that would be like but unfortunately the conditioner sample had only enough for one use. I would recommend the set if you prefer a more sleek look to your hair. While I was impressed with the final results, rough and ready is more my speed so I won't be rushing out to buy this any time soon.
SuperMoischa365 The Hair Elixir & The Smoothie
I love love love The Hair Elixir! I started using this as soon as I got it and I haven't stopped since. This for me is a product must have. I'm a huge fan of oils and this product is mix of oils including coconut and rosemary that help nourish your hair while locking in moisture. I used it initially in tandem with The Smoothie but this was too much product for my hair. I found it worked best as a sealant after a water-based leave in or on it's own. I use it pretty much everyday on my ends and work it through my hair to add shine when it looks a little dull. My only criticism is I wish the spray was less of a jet and more of a spritz. It's a minor detail but would improve the application.
The Smoothie is your classic shea butter based hair butter. It's been whipped to lovely light consistency. Don't let the fluffy texture fool you, it's very rich and a finger full is plenty. While I attempted to use it in tandem with other products, I found it worked best on its own. It's great for locking in moisture when doing protective styles. It gave my twists loads of shine and hold.
I liked both these products because they are for the natural who likes to keep things natural. The ingredient list is small and full of recognisable goodies. Of the two products, I will definitely be restocking on The Hair Elixir.
