I am currently on a mission to get back to healthy happy hair so I have been looking for tips from all my favourite YouTubers with 4B/C hair. A growing trend seems to be washing your hair in twists. This cuts down on hair manipulation and prevents re-tangling. I've tried this before and it was a complete fail. I couldn't get at my scalp without the twists unravelling and if I was more gentle I always felt that my scalp was still unclean.
Naturally High (my current fave) seems to have found a way around this as she uses a scalp massager to work her cleanser in. The one she recommends is from Vanity Planet and it's $20. I wasn't ready to commit that much to something that might not work for me.
Enter the Denman Be-Bop Massage Brush. It has similar characteristics of the scalp massager and retails for just £2.75!
HOW I USED IT: I put my hair into 8 chunky twists and saturated with water. I 'painted' my scalp with shampoo and used the brush to work it into a lather. I squeezed the lather down the twists and rinsed.
PROS: It is very light which meant no arm ache as I was using it. The bristles are firm but flexible so it gives your scalp a good scrub but doesn't irritate it. It feels invigorating and more importantly my scalp felt clean after using it. Out of 8 chunky twists, only one unravelled as it was getting the once over.
CONS: I don't have a single one.
Final thoughts: This brush is my new best friend. It works well and at £2.75 it is really affordable. I feel confident that I'm getting my scalp clean plus the massage means more blood flow to my scalp which should encourage hair growth. It is definitely going to be part of my wash day routine from now on.
