I don't normally do app reviews but I just had to give you guys the low down on my latest download. Tress is an app designed for black women looking for a little guidance when it comes to all things hair. The app is the brainchild of three West African women, Cassandra Sarfo and Priscilla Hazel who are from Ghana and Esther Olatunde who is from Nigeria.
The app is described as a 'fun, passionate community of Black women from around the world sharing and discovering new hairstyles'. It is free to download and currently only available on Android.
This app is a lot of fun and similar in vibe to Instagram except it is all black hair! Once you set up your profile you'll have access to a feed packed with other users uploading their own hair pics and each pic has the name of the style, where it was done and the products used. You can like posts and leave comments.
One of my favourite features on the app is the filter button. Here you can limit your feed to just natural styles, relaxed looks, weaves, braids, locs etc. You can also filter your searches by location and cost. There is also the tips feed which features helpful articles and videos for different hair types. You can also post questions on the app and other users will offer advice.
There is definitely a community vibe and I can imagine it fast becoming the go to app for Black hair inspo. I've already picked up a few ideas as well as some salons to hit up when I'm next in Lagos.
If you get the app, let me know your thoughts in the comments below and hit the like button if you enjoyed this post.
