I have never been one for physical exertion. As a child, I was more comfortable watching the other children run while I sat in the shade with a good book and some juice. Not much has changed.
However, as I become further submerged in 'adulthood' I realise this isn't really an option. My body needs to be exercised so it can work properly. All these mysterious aches and creaks are little cries for help. My body needs me to work and so I shall.
I'd been trying to find my exercise thing when a friend floated the idea of doing a 5K run for charity. This was met with raucous laughter as I have long held the belief that running is what you do when you are being chased but then I realised I am being chased. I am being chased by the spectre of coronary heart disease, obesity and type 2 diabetes.
So here we are. I've begun training for a 5K run that I'm hoping will pave the way to a fitter lifestyle. I will be sharing the ups and downs and all that I learn as I go. Wish me luck!
